Kumu Michael Pili Pang
先生の紹介
Kumu Michael Pili Pang studied hula with Hula Masters’ Maiki Aiu Lake and Mae Kamāmalu Klein. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art and education from the University of Puget Sound and is the only kumu hula to earn a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. He has worked as an Executive Director at the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts, Moanalua Gardens Foundation and Muʻolaulani where he continues to work on several community boards and as a cultural consultant. He was a Lecture of Hawaiian Music and Dance at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Music Department, Iolani, School, St. Andrew’s Priory, and Waimea School. He and his hālau presents lectures, demonstrations, and concerts at universities and colleges in Hawai’i, North America, Canada, and Asia. Kumu Michael is the founder and Kumu Hula Hālau Hula Ka Noʻeau, in Hawaiʻi and in Tokyo.
クムフラ・マイケル・ピリ・パンのフラの原点はフラの巨匠アンティー・マイキ・アイウ・レイクとメイ・カママル・クラインです。プジョーサウンド大学で芸術及び教育の学位を得た後、ハワイ大学マノア校大学院で舞踊芸術の修士号を取得。フラの世界でこの修士号を持つ唯一のクムフラです。また、過去6年間ホノルル市文化芸術担当常任理事を務め、現在も引き続きモアナルアガーデン財団、ムオラウラ二非営利団体等数々のコミュニティー組織の文化芸術コンサルタントとして活動しています。ハワイ大学音楽学部、イオラニスクール、セントアンドリュースプライオリー、ワイメアスクールでは、ハワイアンミュージック及びダンスの講師も務めた経験があり、クムの率いるハラウは、ハワイ州内のみならず、北米、カナダ、そしてアジアと世界中の大学で講義、デモンストレーション、コンサートも行っています。
ハーラウの紹介
Hālau Hula Ka Noʻeau – was established in 1986, in the rural town of Waimea on the Island of Hawaiʻi, by Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang. The hālau maintains the philosophy and the hula ku’i style of dance associated with hula master Maiki Aiu Lake. Hālau Hula Ka Noʻeau is a traditional hula school with roots that go back to the court dancers of Prince Lot Kapuāiwa (Kamehameha V), King Lunalilo and King David Kalākaua. Our hula is our precious jewel that has been passed down from generation to generation. Hālau Hula Ka No’eau is the Hālau that wears many hats. The hula school – the Hālau maintains the hula ku’i style of dance, a style and philosophy associated with grand hula master Maiki Aiu Lake. The cultural and arts center – the Hālau has become a resource of hula practitioners who assist their community with educational programs that help to advance the art of hula. The performing company – the Hālau has emerged as a frontrunner in placing hula on the same stages as other world dance forms at universities and colleges across North America and Asia. Since 1994, Hālau Hula Ka Noʻeau has performed in over 40 cities across the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. In 2002, the hālau was relocated to the Island of Oʻahu and is currently located outside of Waikiki; and in 2016 kumu began teaching in Tokyo, Japan (Ma Nipona).
ハラウ・フラ・カ・ノエアウは、クムフラ・マイケル・ピリ・パンによって1986年ハワイ島ワイメアに設立以来、今も尚、フラの巨匠アンティー・マイキ・アイウ・レイクのフラの哲学及びフラクイスタイルを守り続けています。プリンス・ロット・カプアイヴァ（カメハメハ5世）、キング・ルナリロ、キング・デイビッド・カラカウアの宮廷専属ダンサーだったというルーツを持つ伝統あるハラウで、我々のフラは代々引き継がれてきた由緒ある貴重な宝石のような存在です。また、ハラウ・フラ・カ・ノエアウは、フラスクール (フラの巨匠マイキ・アイウ・レイクの教え、フラ・クイという踊りのスタイルを継承)文化および芸術センター(コミュニティーレベルでフラの教育プログラムに関わるプラクティショナー達のための情報源)パフォーミング・カンパニー(北米およびアジアの大学において、世界中の多種多様の踊りと同じステージにフラを位置させた)という様々な顔をもっています。ハラウ・フラ・カ・ノエアウは、1994年からアメリカ全土40を超える各市町村、カナダ、台湾、韓国そして日本での活動（地元の小中学、大学、各コミュニティー等）を始めてから現在に至ります。2002年にワイキキに近い現在の場所にハラウの拠点を移し、2016年からは日本の生徒さん達の指導を対面、オンラインを通じて行っています（日本ハラウ名：マニポナ）。
